Our Abilities

Sitting on a couch and being a bum during this Christmas season I am able to experience the emotions of wanting to write a novel, ski dangerous slopes, write programs, and read forever. Directors have an amazing ability to convey emotions and to put you in the middle of them. From this couch I have the ability to do anything, be anyone. I take one step away, into reality, and realize the limitations.

Life is what you make it. And its not always what it seems. In 3 minutes you can watch the highlights of a sports team and watch all the great moments. But it took several months to play those games, not to mention the hours in the gym that each athlete does in order to preform those drills. I can watch a trailer of a writer and in 30 seconds watch him finish up a novel and respond to questions with such a artistic and quotable form. But in truth there was no writer, there were screen writers who came up with those quotes. There is no spoon.

I did some research today about writing / research solutions. Programs to keep all the information together. There are some really nice programs out there. And they would be the tools I would want if I was writing a research paper or essay. In a morbid way, just reading through the description gave me the motivation to do such a thing. But of course I’m blocking out the hours of research and writing and the struggle to find the right words.

The truth is, I am not a poet nor am I a writer (as is evident in these posts). There usually is more than meets the eye. In order to do something extraordinary, it usually takes effort. In order to accomplish something great, great work must be put into it.

What are your goals in life? Is that enough motivation to do what it takes to get there?
